Materials and their properties

What properties does the material in the wrap fabric actually have? Here you will find all the materials in the products in the shop and what their properties are. Hopefully this can help you in your choice of fabric. If it is still difficult to choose, you are more than welcome to get in touch with me either on Messenger, which you can find at the bottom right, or email me at info@babykangacarrier.se.

Cotton

is the basis of many wraps/slings. Pure cotton baby wraps are versatile - suitable for everyone and for all occasions. Cotton fiber is resilient, flexible and strong. Cotton scarves are easy to clean and care for. Wraps with 100% cotton are good beginner shawls as they are relatively easy to break in.

Merino wool

makes the wrap fabric soft, fluffy and elastic at the same time. It has thermo-regulating properties - it keeps you pleasantly warm on cold days and on warmer days it cools and transports away excess moisture. It needs special care, as it is sensitive to temperature changes during washing, which can result in felting and shrinkage. Carefully check the washing instructions on the particular product you wish to buy. Many wool fibers require hand washing.

Linen

Wraps with this yarn are ideal for summer. Linen has hygroscopic properties, i.e. it absorbs and transports away moisture and antibacterial properties. Linen fabrics are quite stiff and may need to be broken in at first, but this gives them the strength to carry really heavy babies. They must be handled carefully, as they can shrink a lot.

Hemp

hemp is one of the strongest and most durable of the natural fibers. Hemp fabric and linen have similar properties; they are cool in hot weather and keep warm in cooler weather. It is not as stretchy as other natural fibers, but instead very durable, which makes it optimal for heavier babies and toddlers. The fiber has good absorbency, which makes it easy to dye. Hemp is resistant to ultraviolet light and mold and also has antibacterial properties. Hemp fabric wrinkles easily but does not wrinkle as much as linen.

Bamboo viscose

breathable and cool to the touch, making it ideal for summer. Wrap with this yarn is flexible, cool and soft. It has antibacterial and hygroscopic properties. Long wraps and ring slings are perfect especially for smaller children.

Tencel

is another viscose yarn. Wrap with tencel yarns are soft, fluffy and also light and delicate. The feel of the shawl fabric is cool, making it ideal for summer.

Kashmir

is a noble wool yarn. Fabrics with its additions are extremely delicate, soft, light and do not scratch. Cashmere has thermo-regulating and hygroscopic properties, making it a perfect solution for both summer days and cooler days. In addition, cashmere has hypoallergenic and antibacterial properties. Its undoubted advantages are also antistatic (it does not attract dust:) ) and the fact that it does not absorb odors, which makes it easier to care for the shawl.

Neil Silke

residual silk, heavy, with nubs and lumps. Silk is a soft, light fabric. It has hypoallergenic and antibacterial properties. But despite the appearance, it is a strong fabric that can carry a small as well as a large child.

Tussah Silke

wild, natural silk. It has characteristic nubs and lumps; it can feel a bit rough. Silk is a soft, light fabric. It has hypoallergenic and antibacterial properties. But despite appearance, it is a strong fabric that can carry a small as well as a large child.

Bourette Silk

bourette Silk also called raw silk is a very lively and irregular yarn and it contains lots of small lumps and nubs, and it may even contain a small amount of hay-like organic material. Bourette silk makes the fabric very structured and gives the wrap a good grip.

Modal

is a type of viscose yarn. Wraps made from modal yarn are smooth, elastic and shiny. They are perfect especially in the summer - breathable and airy, which keeps the skin dry. They are characterized by high resistance to damage, thanks to which they retain their softness even after many washes.

Baby Alpaca

is a very fine wool yarn. Wraps made with it are silky, soft, fluffy and shiny. It has thermo-regulating properties - on summer days it cools down pleasantly and on colder days it keeps us warm and absorbs and transports away moisture very well. In addition, it is hypoallergenic (no lanolin), has bacteriostatic properties and does not absorb odors. Shawl fabrics with alpaca wool are very durable, resistant to wear, thanks to which they retain their properties and appearance even after a long time.

Seacell

Seacell is a material that contains seaweed from the sea, the seaweed contains more minerals, vitamins and trace elements than any other natural product. The material gives the skin a resilience and calming effect, this is because the seaweed has an ability to compress the active ingredients in the sea such as amino acids, iodine and mineral salts. Wrap fabric with seacell feels light against the body and has a creamy appearance, material is strong, cozy and soft. It is easy to break in and is suitable for beginners as well as more advanced wearers.

Aloe Vera

A natural vegetable yarn, biodegradable. The wrap with aloe vera yarn is very pleasant to the touch, with a smooth and flowing texture. It has antibacterial and bactericidal properties. It perfectly absorbs and transports away moisture.

Repreve

Repreve is a brand of recycled fibers made from recycled PET bottles. Billions of plastic bottles are landfilled every year. Repreve turns recycled bottles into a fiber, which is used to make fabrics for sports and fashion clothing and more. Their process embeds properties like moisture transport, adaptive heating and cooling, water repellency and more at the fiber level. Repreve is strong material but soft.

Compared to virgin fibers, recycled fibers emit fewer greenhouse gases and save water and energy in the process.

Metallic yarn (glitter)

used in wrap fabric as a decorative addition to give the wrap fabric more shine.
